Revered elder statesman, Seinde Arogbofa, will celebrate his 87th birthday with the launch of two literary works and his induction into the Hall of Fame by the Association of Nigerian Authors tomorrow, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium, Federal University of Technology, Akure, commencing at 10 am. The event will unveil a book titled, Understanding Afenifere: A Journey through the Yoruba Leadership Organization, authored by Arogbofa, which meticulously examines the evolution and influence of the Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, within the Nigerian context. Revered elder statesman, Seinde Arogbofa, will celebrate his 87th birthday with the launch of two literary works and his induction into the Hall of Fame by the Association of Nigerian Authors tomorrow, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium, Federal University of Technology, Akure, commencing at 10 am.


The event will unveil a book titled, Understanding Afenifere: A Journey through the Yoruba Leadership Organization, authored by Arogbofa, which meticulously examines the evolution and influence of the Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, within the Nigerian context. Additionally, a tribute volume, Seinde Arogbofa: A Quintessential Role Model, co-authored by Prof. W. Aderounmu, a distinguished alumnus of the renowned Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, and Comr. Jare Ajayi, a media guru, will detail Arogbofa’s significant contributions to public service and scholarship.


The Association of Nigerian Authors will bestow the Hall of Fame Fellowship upon Arogbofa, a Literary Patriarch, in recognition of his enduring contributions to literature and national development, with the investiture conducted by ANA President, Dr. Usman Oladipo Akanbi, who flew into Akure yesterday for this momentous ceremony.


The Chairman of the Occasion is Prince Kayode Adetokunbo, former Minister of Defense, with His Excellency, Hon. (Dr.) Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Ondo State Governor, serving as the chief launcher. Dr. Aminu Yusuf, Chairman of the National Population Commission, will act as the book presenter and deputy co-launcher, while Prof. Femi Mimiko, mni, former Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, will serve as the book reviewer. Chief (Dr.) Reuben Fasoranti, MDA, OFR, will fulfill the role of Father of the Day, and the Special Guest of Honor will be Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs Services at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Others include: Guest of Honour, Prof. Bisi Balogun, Chief Host is Prof. Temidayo A. Oladiji, FUTA VC. Royal Host: HIM, Oba Adebori Adeleye, the Olubaka of Oka, while the Royal Fathers of the Occasion are namely: HIM, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, the Olowo of Owo, HIM, Oba (Dr.) Victor Kiladejo, Jillo III, the Osemawe of Ondo, HIM, Oba (Dr.) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, CFR, the Deji of Akure. The event is poised to attract scholars, writers, political leaders, and admirers, all gathering to celebrate Arogbofa’s remarkable life.

Basorun Seinde Arogbofa, OFR, pen, born March 23, 1939, is a Nigerian author, public intellectual, and a political leader renowned for his significant contributions to literature and socio-cultural advocacy. He served as the Secretary-General of Afenifere, shaping pivotal discussions on democracy and Yoruba leadership. Today, he remains a respected voice in governance, culture, and leadership, inspiring younger generations through his writings and public service. Pa Arogbofa is a Life Patron of the ANA, Ondo State Chapter.

Ride of Terror: Female Suspect Arrested over Murder of Nigerian Driver in South Africa

A 22-year-old e-hailing driver, Isaac Satlat, met a gruesome end in Pretoria West on February 11. The young driver unknowingly picked up two passengers, a man and a woman, who allegedly ambushed him in his own vehicle. The Gauteng Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a female suspect in connection with the hijacking-turned-murder, while her accomplice remains unseen as at the time of filing this report. All hands must be on deck in apprehending her evil partner, and also be brought to book. Satlat's body and stolen car were found abandoned in Atteridgeville hours after the attack. The arrested suspect will face charges of murder and hijacking at the Atteridgeville Magistrate's Court on February 16. Authorities are urging the public to provide tips to track down the fleeing accomplice. The killing has sparked outrage across continents, highlighting the dangers faced by drivers and the need for vigilance.
