Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, is celebrating the life and legacy of one of its earliest and most devoted sons, Pa Adewole Atandeyi, who walked through the gates of the school many decades ago as a young boy with big dreams.
In a heartfelt tribute signed and presented by the School Principal, Mr. Adeniyi Oluyide, aka Akoni Oodua, the school described Pa Atandeyi as more than just an alumnus. He was a pillar, a builder, and a friend to all.
The Principal of the 'Only School', eulogized the departed soul, who belonged to the second set, at the Lying in State Program held in his honor at the school premises earlier today.
“Whenever the name ‘Oyemekun’ was mentioned anywhere, his face would light up. His commitment was not in words alone, but in deeds – in counsel, in support, in prayers, and in resources,” the tribute read.
Pa Atandeyi remained passionate about Oyemekun all his life. Even in his later years, he continued to support students, answer calls for help, and pray for the growth of the school. He was a regular presence at Inter-House Sports and Prize Giving Days, encouraging both teachers and students.
The school said it lost “an encyclopedia, a father, and a living library” – a man whose presence gave confidence that the past of Oyemekun is secure and the future is assured.
“To the immediate family, the OGSA, and all who loved him: we mourn with you, but we do not mourn as those without hope. We celebrate a life well spent in the service of God, humanity, and Oyemekun Grammar School,” the Principal stated.
Akoni Oodua pledged to immortalize his name and the values he stood for: discipline, excellence, humility, and loyalty to alma mater.
“May God Almighty who called him home grant his soul eternal rest. May He comfort the family he left behind. And may the good Lord continue to raise more sons like him for Oyemekun Grammar School. Rest well, our father, our benefactor.”
Present at the occasion were Hon. Afe Olowookere, OGSA Alumni Global President, Elder Olufemi Olabintan, Global Deputy President, Mr. Dayo Aregbesola, Home Branch Chairman, Chief (Dr.) Mrs. Stella Kolawole Kosemani, other great Alumni, deceased's family, relatives, friends, and well wishers.
Chief Adewole Atandeyi (JP), burial rites hold between July 14th - 19th, 2026, in Akure. The patriarch passed unto glory on 24th February, 2026 at the ripe age of 92.
He retires as a Permanent Secretary in the Ondo State Service, and widely known for his commitment to community and humanity development.
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.

Amen. Rest on Papa Atandeyi
