Tragedy: Female Student Stabbed Male Student over Dispute

A disturbing incident happened at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, on Monday, leaving the student community in shock. A 100-level English Education student, simply indentified as Aisha, allegedly stabbed a fellow student from the Chemistry Education department with a broken bottle near his chest. The altercation arose from a seemingly argument over phone charging, which rapidly escalated into a violent confrontation.

According to eyewitnesses, Aisha had been embroiled in a heated argument with a group of students who had gathered to charge their phones at her villa. The persistent electricity supply issues in the town had led to this gathering, which Aisha apparently found intolerable. As tensions flared, a male student attempted to intervene and calm Aisha down, but she remained unappeased. In a fit of rage, she seized a bottle from the ground, broke it, and stabbed the male student near his chest.

The injured student was swiftly rushed to the state hospital in Ikare for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, Aisha fled the scene, fearing arrest, and her current whereabouts remain unknown. The student community has rallied around the victim, fervently praying for his recovery. Although the institution's authority has yet to release an official statement, the students have taken proactive steps by reporting the incident to the Divisional Police Station in the university town.

This unfortunate incident raises pressing concerns about student safety and conflict resolution within the university community. As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial for the authorities to take swift and decisive action to prevent such incidents in the future. First, by enhancing measures towards student safety and security on campus. Such as: creating accessible conflict resolution and counseling services to support students in managing disputes and emotions.
