OGSA 1971/75 Set Celebrates Golden Jubilee in Grand Style

The Oyemekun Grammar School Akure Alumni Association Secretariat was abuzz with excitement over the weekend as the 1971/1975 Set celebrated its 50th Anniversary of leaving the prestigious institution in grand style. The occasion brought together eminent alumni, including Mr. Dayo Aregbesola (rtd.), a former Statistician General of Ondo State, who led the opening prayer, expressing heartfelt gratitude to God for the milestone achievement and seeking divine protection and provision for the set, school management, and the alumni association.

In his opening remarks, Rev. Ayo Ikulamberu, Chairman of the 1971/1975 Set, who is also the Global PRO of the Oyemekun Grammar School Akure Alumni Association, paid tribute to God for sparing the lives of the set members, many of whom have transitioned to glory or are now in their twilight years. He prayed fervently for more years of celebration and continued fellowship.

The school principal, Mr. Adeniyi Oluyide, who was unavoidably absent, was ably represented by Vice Principal (Admin.) Mrs. Bolaji Ojo. She commended the set for their unwavering commitment to their alma mater and prayed for increased love and unity among them. She also expressed appreciation for their contributions to the school's development and sought divine replenishment of their resources. Bolaji was in the company of another Vice Principal of the school, Mr. Adeleke S.A., and Mr. Gold, an HOD.

Dr. Niyi Ijogun, FNIQS, President of the Oyemekun Grammar School Alumni Association Worldwide, delivered a goodwill message, extolling the set for their outstanding support and dedication to the alumni. He noted that the set has produced many notable individuals who have made significant contributions to the country and the school.

In his words: "Many of the set have retired from the active service and turned their productive lives towards the development of Nigeria, immediate environment, and their alma mater. We recognize the set as one of our formidable sets; they have been very supportive and they have the highest number of members in the Global Executive Council."  Ijogun therefore thanked them on behalf of the over 42,000 old students.

The global president also appreciated the executive members of the set for doing a yeoman's job. He used the medium to announce that the global executive council under his leadership would be winding down in about 10 weeks' time, and that they had given their best to ensure the rapid growth of the school and the alumni.

He said 50 years was not a joke and described it as a good landmark which called for a sober reflection. He requested the set to give their maximum support to the incoming global executive members, adding that together, the school could be taken further to a greater height.

While delivering a vote of thanks, Comrade Rotimi Boboye, Esq., another distinguished member of the set, who currently serves as the Global Secretary General of the Oyemekun Grammar School Alumni Association, appreciated God for making the day a reality. He specially thanked Dr. Niyi Ijogun for gracing the anniversary, adding that they were all indebted to him. He equally acknowledged the presence of the school management, friends, and well-wishers for making the golden jubilee memorable. Boboye appreciated the set members for their contributions to the event's success.

The occasion was marked by poignant reminiscences, lively banters, and jokes, as well as a moment of silence in honor of set members who have passed unto glory. Guests were treated to sumptuous meals and assorted drinks, making it a truly unforgettable celebration of 50 years of camaraderie and shared experiences.
