Popular Female Socialite Arrested for Drug Trafficking

At the beginning of the new year, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made a significant arrest of a notorious drug kingpin and prominent socialite in Lagos. The individual in question, a 61-year-old woman named Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye, was apprehended on Wednesday 1st January 2025 at her mansion at Okota area of Lagos. This arrest followed the interception of a truck carrying an illegal drug consignment by her staff on the same day.

According to a statement issued by the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the suspect, known as "Iya Ruka" in the criminal underworld and Alhaja Ajoke in social circles, had managed to conceal her true identity for a long period. She had been a prime target on the NDLEA's wanted list for orchestrating drug operations within the Mushin area of Lagos.

The veil of secrecy surrounding her criminal activities was lifted when NDLEA operatives, acting on intelligence, seized a white Isuzu truck transporting 44 large sacks containing 1,540 kilograms of imported cannabis. The truck was driven by one of her employees, a 41-year-old Abideen Adio. Subsequently, the operatives raided her residence at 33 Adebayo Oyewole Street, off Ago Palace Way, Okota, leading to her apprehension.

Babafemi highlighted that outwardly, Alhaja Ajoke presents herself as a businesswoman engaged in the importation of fabrics and shoes from China. However, beneath this facade lies an extensive network involved in illicit drug trafficking. Furthermore, she is also known as the Iyalaje of Blessing Sisters, a prestigious club comprised of influential women in Lagos. It is, however, rumoured that the woman is married to a police officer.
