Dr Niyi Ijogun, the Chairman of Premier Holiday Resorts, Igbara-Oke, has been conferred with an Award of Excellence as the: “Distinguished Champion of Education Development in Ondo State” by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ondo State Council over the weekend in Akure, the Ondo State capital, at the Dinner and Award Night as part of the activities marking the Press Week 2024.
Speaking at the event, Ijogun ascribed the feat to God and his Alma mater: "I dedicate this award first to Almighty God, and of course, secondly, to my Alma mater, Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure – that is the school we are all proud of and that has produced us, and if I mean us: the cream of the society, the people we can just think of within the Ondo State's space, Nigeria and also globally." He acknowledged that the recognition was a result of the collective efforts and support he received from the extensive network of over 40,000 Alumni members of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, as well as the school's administration. "I am excited that I represent over 40 thousand old students of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, and riding on that platform to get this award, I am very much excited", he said.
Ijogun expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the NUJ members, under the chairmanship of Prince Leke Adegbite, for deeming him worthy of such an honour, affirming that it would serve as a catalyst for him to further extend his philanthropic gestures within the society. He lauded the NUJ for its thorough and objective news coverage in the state, while assuring them of his readiness to partner and support their noble cause.
Speaking on the state of the nation while fielding questions from the press, the British-trained Professional Quantity Surveyor, shared his optimistic outlook: "I believe there is hope for this country, apart from the renewed hope of government, because I believe nobody has ever made it without challenges, and surely we are going to surmount our challenges. I advise the younger generation to remain very humble, very committed, they should put in hard work in whatever they do, because hard work pays. And they should continue to display professionalism in whatever they do; they should strive to pay the price of sacrifice, being in the height of they different professions, and l believe that with God on everybody's side; the sky is the limit, and of course the country at large will be greater tomorrow."
Proud of his Alma mater, he remarked: "Like l told you earlier, Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, is the 'Only School' and all others are just by the corner, so I sympathise with those people that did not go to that school." Still addressing the men of the pen profession, "But I want to tell you that by September next year, we may have to sell admission forms to some adults like you so that you may be part of our esteemed community, Ijogun said jokingly.
He extended warm season's greetings to his followers and all Nigerians as they would be celebrating Christmas, offering early wishes for a prosperous new year.
